STREET FAIR
After a month of rainy weather the sun finally came out for our 32nd Street Fair held on Saturday, June 27th. The Fair was a wonderful social event. Neighbors got the opportunity to meet and greet other members they had not seen since last Fall.
BAKE TABLE:
Thanks to all the bakers, buyers and sellers. Our gratitude goes to Peg O'Hara for allowing us to use her driveway.
Thanks to our sellers, Peg O'Hara, Rita Dawson and Jeana Pittman for an outstanding job. Thanks to Sue Moshier for making all the phone calls.
RAFFLE SALES:
Thanks to all our Representatives who sold raffle tickets and thanks to all of you who so willing bought tickets.
The raffle ticket winners were: Stephie D'Innocenzo, Dick & May Miller, Lisa Blikens, Phyllis Foote and Dean & Diane Crosby.
YARD SALES:
Thanks to the six members who participated in this event by having individual Yard Sales. We would like to have more homes participate next year, so start saving your treasures now.

Ads were placed in the Cape Cod Times, Action Unlimited, Cape Week, Community Cable TV and the Upper Cape Codder. Notices were placed in local stores around town. Thanks to Dean Crosby for putting up the direction signs again.
The Street Fair is the primary fund raiser that supports the Sunshine Fund, the Mary Kent Cookout, the Fall Fling Dinner and our newsletter, the Sandpiper.

MARY KENT PICNIC 2009
Our Annual Picnic was held on Saturday, August 1st at Lou & Mary Julian's house #268. After a week of strong winds and high humidity the air dried and the sun came out making it a perfect day for our picnic. We're sure Mary Kent was helping us out again.
The picnic was attended by 53 people. Thanks to everyone who brought delicious salads, desserts and the wonderful pasta and clam sauce, home made by Nick DeAngelis.
In celebration of the 31st Anniversary of our association Lobster was added to our menu along with a champagne toast to thank everyone for keeping our Association active and on going. The menu also included: hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, Sue's (Moshier) famous baked beans, chips, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
Special thanks to the Julian's for letting us use their yard and grills and to Mary Julian for the tour of their lovely new home.
Also, thanks to our many chiefs: Lou Julian, Mike Romanelli, Art Moshier and Frank Gallello. Thanks to Jeana Pittman for working the sign in table.
Thanks to everyone who attended and made this an enjoyable event and to help keep this "tradition" going.
FALL DINNER, SEPTEMBER 12, 2009
In-spite of the Monsoon rain (5" in one hour) WOW! Thirty six brave and soggy residents attended the Pot Luck Dinner at the Swift Activity Center.
Before dinner everyone had a chance to get caught up with the latest news from neighbors and friends. Dinner included: appetizers-entrees-dessert-coffee and tea. It was a wonderful feast. We have the best and most generous cooks on our street.
After dinner entertainment was provided by our members sharing stories of how they came to Phillips Road. Thanks to everyone who shared their story and for the pictures.
Many of our local merchants donated gift certificates or merchandise for the evenings raffle. Our gratitude to: Dan'l Webster, Lindsey's, Mezza Luna, Persy's Place, Bob Byrnes, Minerva Pizzeria, Seafood Sam's, Way Ho, Home Depot, Joe's Lobster Mart, British Beer and Trader Joe's. Mike Romanelli donated 10 huge hanging Mum plants. Thank you Mike. Also, thanks to Joe Dias for the J&B. CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners.
It was a very successful evening because of all of you attending and the great food you brought.
At the end of the evening, every family left with a thank you gift: a Starbucks bag filled with Tazo Tea, a pound of Starbucks coffee and two mugs.
Special thanks to Ginny Swanson, Judi & Alan Decew, Art Moshier and Arthur Rubin, for helping set up the hall. Also, MEGA thanks to everyone who helped with the cleanup.

ANNUAL MEETING SUGGESTION
Since there have been several complaints about unsafe beach fires, trespassing, sleeping on the beach, and other disruptive behavior, the members at the meeting suggest that the Guidelines document be posted prominently in each property so that guests and renters are aware of fire safety and appropriate behavior. Including our guidelines as part of the rental contract was also suggested. We want everyone to enjoy our beautiful environment.
NEW LIB’S WAY SIGN
The Lib's Way sign and decorative post has been installed at the beachway through Elisabeth and Jim Dennett’s former cottage colony and looks great! This designation has been made as a tribute to one of our early owners. The sign and decorative post have been made possible though the efforts and contributions of the following people:

Ed Maybury (#254) writes: “Considering the severe winter on Sagamore Beach, we doubly enjoyed our days in the southern sun - in Florida and the Caribbean. Son Eddie is now a Commander in the U.S Naval Reserve. Daughter Karol has accepted a professorship at U Maine, Farmington, Maine. Son Mark will play the concert season in Sandwich and Chatham with both his sons and Ed. This summer we eagerly anticipate the usual family gatherings, musical activities, and boating.

Daughter Karol, Eric and family are in their new home in Wilton, Maine. She has begun teaching in the Psychology Department at UMaine. Eric continues his international flying for Delta. We already have enjoyed several trips to Maine. The Chelmsford Mayburys -son Mark and grandsons Zach and Max completed the entire season with the Chatham and Sandwich town bands. Michelle and grandaughter Julia returned to the Cape from their earlier summer in Germany. Grandson Ed Kevin is now a freshman in High School in Jacksonville, Florida enjoying his studies, and football. Granddaughter Shaylyn has made the travel hockey team. The Maybury family gathered at the Cape from as far as Texas and Virginia to celebrate the 4th. Columbus Day will be a time for another family gathering on Sagamore Beach.
Mary Ann Schaller (#348) reports that Betty Sherman (#363) celebrated her 96th birthday in May. Many Happy Returns, Betty.
Dick and May Miller (#298) celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on August 21st. Congratulations!!!!!!
Rob and Kathy Connors (#259) report: They “had a festive occasion on Saturday, June 13th. Kathy’s son Marty and wife Deb were given a grand reception in Sandwich for the celebration of their recent marriage. It was a fun time for all! The weather turned out great and the partying continued at the beach. Best of luck to Marty and Deb!”

Marilyn Colucci (#305) graciously agreed to write up a momentous occasion for Don and Marilyn’s son, Tom.
“On Sunday, May 31st, our son Tom, now Brother Thomas, O.S.B professed his solemn vows as a Benedictine monk. The ceremony took place during the 9:00 o’clock Mass at Mount Saviour Monastery located in upstate New York in Pine City, a short distance from Elmira. It was a beautiful, joyous, spiritual and moving ceremony. Some members of our family were also with us. They included our son Stephen, his wife Liz, their son Gregory of Ithaca, New York and their son David of New York City. Also our daughter Donna and husband Jim Borgman and their two children, Amanda and Nicholas of Millis, Massachusetts. Our nephew Bob Colucci, his wife Josephine and children John and Diane from Bethpage, Long Island were also present. Several Fireman from New York City, friends and former co-workers of Brother Tom were also present. Later in the day a catered dinner was served in the Monastery Refectory for more than 100 invited guests. It was a happy day filled with love and caring not only for us, the immediate family, but for all those who were present. It was a day to remember, a once in a lifetime event that will live in our memory forever.”
Paul and Rita Dawson (#248) were invited on a cruise in March by their son Jim and his wife Elaine. The cruise’s ports of call were Aruba, Colombia, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, and the Cayman Islands. Paul told me it was a grand trip with wonderful entertainment and lots of dancing. I’m sure Paul and Rita were ‘awesome’ on the dance floor! Grandson Brendan graduated in June from the University of Virginia with a major in Marketing. He will be working with the College’s Endowment Fund for the next three years. Congratulations!
News from Linda Sheldon (#321)
Linda Sheldon continues to teach Kundalini Yoga, Dowsing, Downsizing for Seniors (or anyone), Subtle Energy Healing and other classes. She has added Senior Yoga classes at the Bourne Council on Aging (open to anyone) at 9AM on Mondays and Fridays. Her other Senior is class is a combination of Yoga, Light Pilates and Light Weight Training on Tuesdays at 12 Noon at the Four Winds Soulstice Center in Sagamore Beach. Other Kundalini Yoga Classes are 4PM Mondays and 9AM Thursdays at the Four Winds Soulstice Center in Saganore Beach, Tuesdays 10:30AM and Wednesdays 7PM at PowerHouse Gym in Cedarville, and 7:30PM on Tuesdays and 9AM Wednesdays at Hope Floats Healing & Wellness Center in Kingston. Linda also teaches three classes at White Cliffs for members only.
Linda's business Shifting Sands Transitions, LLC, a Senior Move and Downsizing business continues to grow and expand on the Cape, the South Shore, Cambridge, Boston and Rhode Island. The Downsizing Class for Seniors she taught at the Bourne Council on Aging continues to be broadcast on Bourne Access Cable. Please call her for information on any of her classes. Thank you! Linda
WELCOME TO NEW OWNERS
Katy Borgman (#309) sold her house last August to Steve and Kim Eriksson, 4 Dogwood D., Kingston, MA. They have two young daughters, Nicole and Kaitlin.
John and Pat Wright recently sold their home (#301) to Mike & Lisa Mabardy who already own property on our road. Pat writes that they are very busy getting settled into their new retirement home in Florida and are sampling all of the available activities.
Gerry Goveia and Brenda Bagnell (#346) sold their house to Robert Conrad.
Michael and Joanne Donnellan (#312) have sold their house to James and Bertha Pinzino from Marlborough.
CONDOLENCES
Elisabeth Dennett (formerly #’s 318 & 320) passed away on April 14, 2009, at the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home in Middleboro. She was 102 years old.
She was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Lib’, she was a resident of Plympton for 97 years and held the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Plympton before moving to the Hannah Shaw Home.
Here on Phillips Road she was a fixture at all of our social events. She and husband Jim, two of our earliest residents were involved in supporting our Association in all of its activities.
Don & Lisa Blickens (#284) remember: ” Elisabeth and Jim were like our second parents when we vacationed on Sagamore Beach. We loved the summer beach picnics and the girls loved it when Jim would take them fishing in his big wooden boat. Elisabeth had the job of swimming in the very cold water to entice vacationers to go in. Jim and Elisabeth were parents to our Dorothy when she lived in their cottage during the winter when she first moved to Cape Cod and when she stayed in Plympton with them.”

Remembering Elisabeth Dennett
For over 50 years Elisabeth Dennett welcomed families to Dennetts' Cottages on Phillips Rd. Spring, Summer and Fall. She and her husband Jim built their first two cottages in the late forties and had finished their eighth by the mid fifties. Jim died in 1990 after a long illness but Elisabeth lived on into her 102nd year. She continued to stay at “The Office”, (#320), a major part of the summer.
On April 25, 2009 Elisabeth's family, friends and neighbors from Plympton and Sagamore Beach gathered at the Plympton Congregational Church to celebrate her long life. The church bell tolled 102 times in her honor on that fine spring day. Linda Sheldon who lives year round at #321 spoke for the hundreds of families who have enjoyed summer vacations at Dennetts' Cottages for over five decades. She read from a note Bernice Nealon, the mother of eight children, wrote on the back of a photo taken of Jim and Elisabeth in front of their cottage.
Jim and Elisabeth - our dear friends who preside so gracefully and graciously over that enchanted acre at Phillips Road where we were so fortunate to spend precious weeks each year for a decade. To each and every one of us Sagamore was not just a place but a way of life."
Pam Nealon Langenbach and her husband Jim, current president of the beach association, enjoy summers with their daughters and grandchildren at #327. Four generations at Sagamore Beach! Not unusual and such a tribute to Elisabeth and Jim.
I’m sure lots of us have fond memories and will miss her.
Robert “Bob” Connors, Sr. (#259) passed away peacefully at his home at 259 Phillips Rd.
on June 3rd,, 2009. He had been a resident since 1963 when he purchased the ”cottage” for his late wife, Fran and their son, Rob. Over the years, Bob and Fran were seen at many Association functions. His favorite pastime was watching his wife,son grandchildren and many friends enjoying times at the beach. He often called his house the “prettiest spot in the world”. Fran and Bob will always be missed by everyone who knew them. Thanks to Rob Connors for providing this tribute.
Bill Speight (#299) died suddenly on December 23rd, 2008. Our sympathy goes to Barbara and their family. The Speights are long time owners in our community. We will all miss Bill.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CARS AND HOUSES WHENEVER YOU ARE OUT OF SIGHT. Cape Cod Police Chiefs are reminding people that there have been lots of car and house break-ins and thefts from unlocked vehicles and premises.
