STREET FAIR
Our 31st Annual Street Fair was held on Saturday, June 28th. The event was not only a successful fund raiser, but also a wonderful social event. Neighbors got the opportunity to meet and greet other members they had not seen since Fall.

The Street Fair is the primary fund raiser that supports the Sunshine fund, the Mary Kent Cookout Aug.2nd, 2008, the Fall Fling Dinner Sept. 6th 2008 and our newsletter, The Sandpiper. Remember these dates.

Thanks to everyone for making our 31st Annual Street Fair such a success.

BAKE TABLE:
The Bake Table raised $144. It was a complete sell out. Thanks to all the bakers, buyers and sellers. Our gratitude to Peg O'Hara for allowing us to use her driveway.
Thanks to our sellers, Peg O'Hara and Jeana Pittman for an outstanding job. Thanks to Sue Moshier for making all the phone calls.

RAFFLE SALES:
Raffle ticket sales raised $481. Thanks to all our Representatives who sold raffle tickets and thanks to all of you who so willing bought tickets.
The raffle ticket winners were: Janet Moffat, Lisa Roberts, Jeana Pittman and Mary Julian.

YARD SALES:
Thanks to all members who participated in this event by having individual Yard Sales. We would like to have more homes participate next year, so start saving your treasures now.

DONATIONS:
Thanks to all of you who gave generous cash donations. Many thanks to Dunkin Donuts for the donation of donuts, Shaw's and Stop & Shop for donating $25 Gift Certificates and Starbuck's for the coffee.

ADS, NOTICES AND SIGNS:
Ads were placed in the Cape Cod Times, Action Unlimited, Cape Week, Community Cable TV and the Upper Cape Codder. Notices were placed in local stores around town. Thanks to Dean Crosby for putting up the direction signs again.
SAFETY NOTE

Members may already be aware that there have recently been some break-ins and thefts on Phillips Road properties. I guess we are no longer Sandwich’s best kept secret. Suggestions include: keep cars locked, have someone check your property if you are away, be alert to any suspicious activity and report any such activity to the police.

Don and Lisa Blickens (#284) were visited by their Daughter Melissa, Son-In-Law Ken and Granddaughter Nicki from Charlotte, North Carolina over the first week of July. Nicki and family celebrated her 12th birthday on 7/7/2007. She has a red belt with black stripe in Tae Kon Do and shortly will receive her Black Belt. Melissa is a Blue Belt.
Lisa completed a 5 day intensive art course at the Art School of The Berkshires in Stockbridge in June and continues her Kundalini Yoga classes with Linda Sheldon (#321).
Don, Sister Barbara Sullivan and their fellow volunteer Reiki Practitioners, parents and special children celebrated the first anniversary of the Free Reiki Clinic for Special Children in April. He continues his free Reiki practice at client’s homes and for a $10.00 use fee at the New England Institute for Reflexology and Universal Studies in Bourne. Don has been accepted for inclusion as a Reiki Practitioner in the Falmouth Hospital Directory of Complementary/Alternative Medicine Providers. He completed three demonstrations of Reiki on committee members and an interview by the full Integrative Health Committee. He also gave a presentation and Reiki demonstration at The Cape Head Injured Person’s Housing and Education Group, Inc. (Chip’s House) in Centerville. The two Chip’s units are permanent homes to ~ 19 full time patients. Don maintains a group of Reiki Practitioners and others who volunteer to send Prayers and Healing Light to persons with Medical/Surgical problems. If you have someone in need, contact him at 508-833-2705 or at reiki132@comcast.net . All information is held strictly in confidence by group members. Don has been a volunteer driver for the Sandwich Meals-On- Wheels program for 4 and a half years and for the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Program for one and a half years.
Rich and Celeste Leydon (#304): Just to let you know, Rich and I are the proud grandparents of our 7th grandchild. A girl, born on May 9, 2008 to our daughter Kimberly and husband Brian McLaughlin, has been named Ella Rose McLaughlin. Mother and daughter are well and doing fine. I am sure little Ella will be visiting us on the beach this summer. There is nothing else happening with us this year. Thank God!!! Rich and I like things quiet and uneventful.
On April 19, 2008, Bill and Lis Roberts (#323) joined in the celebration of the wedding of their grandson, Brian B, Roberts to Danielle Marcarelli. The ceremony took place at St. Athanasius Church in Reading where Brian grew up. Danielle’s sister, Amy, was the maid of honor and Brian’s brother Kevin was the best man, Their bridesmaids and ushers were friends from high school and college. Danielle’s parents, Debbie and Tony Marcarelli of Sloatsburgh, New York, her grandmother, Flora Marcarelli and Danielle’s extended family traveled from New York and spent several days in the Boston area.
The reception was held at the Sheraton in Wakefield with all of Danielle’s and Brian’s family and friends in attendance. The youngest guests were the three great-grandchildren of Lis and Bill- Joseph, age 4, Marcus, age 3, and Ava, age 15 months, the children of Brian’s sister, Alison and her husband, Joseph Thurston. Brian is employed by General Electric, Aircraft Engines Division, and is completing his thesis for his Master’s degree. He intends to become a Registered Professional Engineer as is Bill who still holds that distinction. Danielle is a physical therapist at Salem Hospital and willingly answers the many questions Bill asks about his knee problems.

Linda Sheldon (#321) continues to teach Kundalini Yoga in Sagamore Beach, Cedarville, White Cliffs, Plymouth, and Duxbury. She also teaches many seminars and workshops. Workshops and seminars include Subtle Energy Healing, beginning, intermediate and advanced levels, BreathWalk, Flower Essences, Creating Prosperity, Dowsing, Acupressure, specialized Yoga seminars such as Yoga for Eyes, Yoga for the Heart and Kundalini Yoga for Endurance, Senior Yoga. Linda has created and teaches a new YogaLates class which is a combination of Yoga, Pilates and Weight Training.

Utilizing her training and Masters Degrees in Psychology and Public Administration, she has established a Life Coaching Practice. She is also started a new company with two excellent partners called Shifting Sands Transitions, LLC. The focus of the new company is to assist seniors downsizing and moving into smaller homes or assisted living centers as well as assisting other age groups as well in life transitions. All three of the partners love
working with seniors and bring a wide variety of professional experience to the new company. Linda has three websites both in: http://www.lindasheldon.com/ and http://www.simrankaur.com/ and http://www.shiftingsandstransitions.com/ . She is also self-publishing her first book: Yoga for the Eyes.

Helen Weaving (#267) On March 15 we had a street naming event in the NE Bronx to honor my husband, (see below). On April 5 Bill and Sandy's son Jonathan was married to Jackie Neimeyer in Teutopolis, IL with a huge and beautiful wedding (10 bridesmaids and equal number of groomsmen). On Sunday, June 8 my youngest grandson, Scott Lananna (younger son of Betty and Vin) graduates from Dartmouth College, so we will all be there, then, I'll be staying for the Summer at267 Phillips Rd. I'll be glad to give you any more information about these events once I am home again at Sagamore Beach.

“bers looked on. CB 10 district manager Ken Kearns, submitted the name to the community board for approval where it received unanimous support. Councilman Jimmy Vacca then brought it to the City Council where it received final approval in May 2007.
Along with Kearns and Vacca, Senator Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Michael Benedetto also came out to the street unveiling.
Howard Weaving was born in Concord, MA on July 25, 1915 and he passed away in Honey Brook, PA on April 18, 1997 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Helen, their three children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.” Copied from the Bronx Times Reporter March 20, 2008.

Jack and Jeana Pittman (#340) In February, Paige, one of Jeana and Jack Pittman’s granddaughters from Ashland, competed in the States gymnastics meet in Orlando, Florida. She did very well and won several awards. Her younger brother, John III, otherwise known as JT, is on the AAU baseball traveling team and had only one season loss after 30 games. They placed 2nd in 2 tournaments, one in Long Island and one in Myrtle Beach.

Their oldest grandson, Chris, going into his sophomore year at Plymouth State in New Hampshire was a member of its successful football team which ended the season with 9 wins and l loss. His brother, Nick, who will be a junior in high school in the fall is taking pre-med courses this summer for college credits. He’s on the track team at Milford High.

On their way home from Florida, they stopped to visit their daughter Lisa, David and their two daughters in Oriental, North Carolina. They live in a new and up and coming area located on the coast in the Neuse River Basin, a sailing community. While there they were able to see Victoria, and Alexandra sparring with their teammates in their Tai Kwon Do class. It was a family affair for the Dawe family - Mom and Dad take classes also. Lisa and family are back on the Cape on the Bourne section of Phillips Road for the summer, much to their parents delight.

Jeana and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 24 by renewing their vows at Mass at Corpus Christi and were then treated to dinner at the Daniel Webster Inn. Among the surprises of the evening, one of the funniest was a sign that had been put on their car “Just Remarried - 50 years” and finding out that the clanging noises they heard while driving came from tin cans their kids had tied onto the back of their car. A good time and a lot of laughs made for a special evening.

Sue Perkins and her daughter Hannah (327X Phillips Rd) are planning a three week vacation in New Zealand this summer.

The Millers (298 Phillips Rd) are expecting their 8th grandchild this month. In August May and Dick will also be celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary.
This spring, after thirty years of dedicated service to our Association as Secretary, Representative, and as Sunshine Fund Manager, Dick has retired. (In his words,”because I’m getting old.”) MEGA THANKS to Dick for his willing help! At the annual meeting, Linda Sheldon (#321) volunteered to become the new Sunshine Fund Manager.

Elisabeth Dennett visited Phillips Road on Sunday, June 1. Honey and Terry Patterson (#318 & #320) brought her down for a visit. She will be celebrating her 102nd birthday this summer. She was delighted with her visitors and the trip to Sagamore Beach.

Stella and Ed Maybury’s (#254) grandson Zach Maybury graduated from Chelmsford High in June, and will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in September. Zach won several scholarships an awards, including the Louis Armstrong citation for his many musical achievements. Zach will study pre-law and computer science, following in the footsteps of his Father, and Uncle who are earlier undergraduates of the Cross. As our oldest grandson, we are obviously, very proud. As for the summer, all the clan will arrive for a week in late June to honor several birthdays, and Zach and his brother Max will be here all summer, volunteering at Thornton Burgess, the Sandwich Community School, and playing in the Chatham and Sandwich Town Bands. The East Sandwich family will join in the fun of boating, fishing, and enjoying the beach. We wish all of the Association members an enjoyable summer.

Betty Sherman (#363) celebrated her 95th birthday on May 3, 2008. Congratulations, Betty. Must be the salty air!!

Welcome to our new neighbors who hail from Delaware, Michael and Judy Aloe (#272), formerly the Beland’s.

Lillian Bromley (#244) wants to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes for her recovery. The cards, flowers, and visits were great. She really appreciated everything, especially the prayers. She says she would never have made it on her own.

Other news—I was fortunate this spring to be able to take a marvelous coastal cruise along the western coast of Norway. Our ship was a utilitarian ship that took on passengers, cars, mail and freight, picking up and depositing at all the tiny ports north to the Artic Circle and beyond to the northernmost city in Europe, Kirkenes, near Russia. On the way south we stopped in those ports that we went by at night on the way up. The scenery was spectacular, the people delightful, the towns, settlements and city of Bergen most picturesque.

George Burke (#355A) reports that in late summer 2007 his 12th grandchild was born, Ezekiel George Burke-Lewis. Congratulations! He also tells us that he was recently inducted into New England Basketball Hall of Fame and into the Quincy High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Wow, what an honor or two!!!

It was a busy travel year for Marilyn and Don Colucci (#305). In October they took a month long trip to New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia. They spent the Thanksgiving weekend in Ithaca, NY with son Steve and family. This included a day in Skaneateles, where each weekend for a month, the town is turned into a Charles Dickens Village with the townspeople playing all the parts; Scrooge, Marley, Tiny Tim, etc. In February we left for a month’s stay on Sanibel Island, Florida. We were able to visit with many snowbird friends and now permanent residents. On April 20th we were fortunate to spend the day at Yankee stadium for Pope Benedict’s Mass. With seats right behind what is generally home plate, we had a wonderful view. The first of May we flew to Colorado Springs and spent 12 days with our daughter Carolyn and family. We attended grandson Brodie’s First Communion, granddaughter Brittany’s 8th grade choir concert and on Mother’s Day a brunch at Briarhurst Manor in Manitou. Then we flew home a few days later in time for grandson Joseph’s First Communion. Next we left for Ithaca, NY and grandson David’s graduation from Cornell University, where we were honored to attend the convocation and many receptions and dinners. He is now working and living in New York City, close for an occasion visit with us. We hope to spend some time on Sagamore Beach before we leave for northern Italy’s Lake District and Switzerland in October. Whew, what a whirlwind year you have had. Don’s comment “we experienced five spring seasons all around the globe”.

Roy and Maria Armstrong’s (#306) 4th grand child was born on March 7, 2008. Brendan Roy Butler’s parents are Beth and Roland Butler. He joins his big brother, Jack 2yrs old, and his older cousins Mike and David. All Boys! Roy and Maria were able to plan their trips to Ft. Myers around Brendan’s arrival. And Brendan has already been a frequent visitor to Sagamore Beach.

Some of you may remember the VanDam’s, formerly #304. John died some time ago and Fern passed away in New Zealand last winter. She was living in New Zealand near their daughter. Our sympathy goes out to her family.

Another former member, Gertrude Ewing (#339) died on December 14, 2007 in Albany, NY. She was 86 years old. She lived on Phillips Road for 20 years before moving to Albany in 2002. She was active on the social committee and her husband John, who died in June of 1998, was a past president and treasurer of our Association. Our sympathy goes out to her family.
